EFD warns of flammable liquids burn risk during National Burn Awareness Week

February 05,2024

The Enterprise Fire Department is reminding residents of the common risk of injury from flammable liquids during National Burn Awareness Week (Feb 4-10, 2024).

The initiative of the American Burn Association aims to make the public aware of the frequency, devastation and causes of burn injury, measures to prevent injuries and how-to best care for those who may be injured.

The CDC reports 276,086 people received medical care for treatment of unintentional burns in 2020. Almost one-third of all burn injuries occur in children under the age of 15. The primary causes of injury include fire-flame, scalds, contact with hot objects, electrical and chemical.

Burn safety education and prevention efforts continue to reduce the number of people who suffer burns each year. The Enterprise Fire Department as well as other life safety professional work every day to protect others and to promote burn injury awareness and prevention.
